Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Monday invited Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince of Brunei Darussalam, to visit the Philippines.
Duterte made the invitation during her courtesy call to Billah.
“Ikinararangal ko ang mainit na pagtanggap sa akin nitong araw ng Lunes ni His Royal Highness Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, ang Crown Prince ng Brunei Darussalam,” she said in a statement posted on her Facebook page.
The Vice President said she and Billah discussed sports-related matters as well as the contribution of many hardworking Filipinos employed in the various industries in Brunei.
“Inimbitahan din natin ang lider ng Brunei na bumisita sa Pilipinas, lalo na sa Davao City at tikman ang ipinagmamalaki nating durian,” Duterte said.
Duterte left the country on Sunday for her three-day visit to Brunei as part of her duties as the tenure council president of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO).
Aside from meeting His Majesty Billah, the Vice President also toured the said country's private and public educational institutions and Vocational technology regional centers.
Meanwhile, Duterte celebrated the 125th Philippine Independence Day with Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
“Sa aking mensahe, sinabi ko na ang selebrasyong ito ay isang pag-alala sa mga sakripisyo ng ating mga bayani upang makamit ang ating kasarinlan, kasabaynng ating pagbibigay diin sa pagkilala natin sa dedikasyon at sakripisyo ng mga OFWs para mabigyan ng magandang buhay ang ang kanilang mga pamilya sa Pilipinas,” she said in a separate statement.
The Vice President said she also called on OFW in Brunei to continue to teach their children to love the country, its language, and traditions.
“Dala ko rin sa ating Filipino community dito sa Brunei ang aking pagpapasalamat sa suportang ibinagay nila sa akin, kay Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. — pati na rin sa suporta nila sa administrasyon ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte,” she furthered.
