Vice President Sara Z. Duterte on Wednesday expressed gratitude following the Supreme Court’s decision declaring the fourth impeachment complaint filed against her as unconstitutional.
In a statement released online on July 30, Duterte thanked the members of the legal team for defending her when “no one else was willing to stand by” her. She also commended the petitioners of G.R. No. 278359 for challenging what she described as “abuses of the House of Representatives.”
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Defense Team for taking on my case, even when no one else was willing to stand by me. Thank you to the Petitioners of G.R. No. 278359 for having the conviction to challenge the abuses of the House of Representatives,” Duterte stated.
The Vice President also recognized those who supported her amid the controversy.
“To those whose voices rang out in dissent against persecution — thank you. Your courage to speak the truth has been a source of strength,” she said.
Duterte, who faced multiple impeachment complaints in the past months, vowed to remain firm against leaders whose actions she described as motivated by greed.
“Our country deserves better, and we shall stand tall, strong, and resilient against leaders whose greed will bring down our homeland. We deserve better.” the Vice President said.
She concluded her message by thanking her supporters and calling on Filipinos to “love the Philippines — for God, country, and every Filipino family.”
On Friday, the Supreme Court ruled the impeachment complaint against Duterte unconstitutional, a decision that elicited varied reactions from the public.
