Vice President Sara Duterte condemns the manhunt operation conducted by police officers in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound during their second attempt to serve the arrest warrant for religious leader Apollo Quiboloy.
"Hindi ko tinututulan ang implementasyon ng anumang warrant of arrest na naaayon sa batas. Ngunit kailanman ay hindi katanggap-tanggap ang paggamit ng dahas laban sa mga inosenteng mamamayan at mga deboto ng Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC)," Duterte said in a statement on Sunday.
Duterte stated that she vehemently condemned the gross abuse of police power in what she described as the 'takeover' of the KOJC compound, which resulted in the harassment of worshippers, the abuse of minors, and the unnecessary loss of life.
She asserts that the actions taken by the police force are not only blatant violations of constitutionally protected rights but also a betrayal of the trust, Filipinos place in the institution that sworn to protect and serve them.
The Vice President also said that she cannot help but question whether the use of excessive force and unjust treatment of ordinary Filipinos to enforce the arrest warrant is due to the fact that the accused is a well-known supporter of Duterte.
She then apologized to the members, devotees, and everyone involved with the Kingdom of Jesus Christ for encouraging and urging them to vote for Bongbong Marcos Jr. in the 2022 national elections.
"You deserve better," Duterte said in closing.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 11 officers raided the 30-hectare KOJC compound on Saturday to serve the arrest warrant for Quiboloy, deploying 2,000 police units to the scene.
