Malacañang on Thursday dismissed as “wild imagination” Senator Imee Marcos’ claims that the Marcos administration is plotting to jail Vice President Sara Duterte and her allies ahead of the 2028 presidential elections.

In a press conference on Thursday, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro assured that no such scheme exists.

“They are just creations of fertile and wild imagination,” Castro said.

On Tuesday, the senator voiced concerns over the possible appointment of Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as Ombudsman, as she claimed that the move could be politically motivated. Remulla is among 17 applicants vying for the post, according to the Judicial and Bar Council.

“There is a very ominous reason clearly for Secretary Boying to become the next Ombudsman,” the senator said during a press conference on September 2.

“It’s the new phase of the effort to get rid of VP Sara before 2028. Since the People’s Initiative failed, the impeachment failed, therefore the third attempt is lawfare at its very worst — imprison Inday Sara [and] all the Duterte allies including myself perhaps,” she added.

The senator further alleged that Remulla’s potential appointment was being “forced” to ensure Duterte’s disqualification or imprisonment ahead of the next presidential race.

"Ipinipilit nila na si Boying [Remulla] ay maging Ombudsman para ipakulong si VP Inday Sara bago mag-2027. At hindi lang si Inday Sara kundi lahat ng mga Duterte, kaalyado ng mga Duterte, baka pati ako," Sen. Marcos said

Despite these claims, Malacañang on Wednesday, September 3, reiterated that the administration has no such plan and urged the presidential sister to “recalibrate her crystal ball” so she could rely on evidence-based stories instead of mere rumors.
