Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto explained why, in his 10 years in politics, he still doesn’t have "big machinery" for quick distribution of campaign posters.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the mayor shared a photo of his name written with masking tape, displayed on the balcony of a Pasig resident’s house.
According to Sotto, not having big campaign machinery is his choice.
Sotto emphasized that he wants to help break the cycle of "money politics."
For Sotto, corruption is not the only issue. He pointed out that there are other capable candidates who are not given a chance by the public.
He said that public need to reach a point where only the "best of the best" are elected into office, which will uplift the government's quality of service.
Sotto became the mayor of Pasig City in 2019. He is the son of actors Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes, but made a name for himself in public service through his transparency, reform-oriented leadership, and strong anti-corruption stance.
He first served as a city councilor from 2016 to 2019 before winning the mayoral seat in a historic victory against a political dynasty that had ruled Pasig for nearly three decades.
