Vendors flocked to Ongpin Street in Binondo early Tuesday, on the eve of the Chinese New Year, to sell various items associated with good fortune.

Among the goods being sold are bracelets, wind chimes, fruits, Buddha figurines, wooden snake decorations, money plants, and other traditional charms believed to bring luck and prosperity.

Tikoy, a popular treat during Chinese New Year, is also available at ₱110 for small, ₱135 for medium, and ₱200 for large.

The Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) earlier announced several road closures ahead of the much-anticipated Chinese New Year Countdown.

The road closures took effect at 12:01 A.M. on Tuesday at the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge.

Subsequently, the following roads will also be closed starting at 9 P.M. on January 28:

  • Northbound and southbound lanes of Jones Bridge
  • Stretch of Quintin Paredes Street (from Padre Burgos Avenue to Dasmariñas Street)
  • Jones Bridge
  • Plaza Cervantes
  • Binondo-Intramuros Bridge

Meanwhile, strict security measures are in place around Binondo, with personnel from the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) deployed early to manage traffic and ensure the safety of attendees.

This annual celebration is expected to draw large crowds eager to experience the lively festivities, support local vendors, and welcome the Chinese New Year with hope and prosperity.
