Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian announced on Wednesday that he tested positive for COVID-19.
"I wish to inform my fellow Valenzuelanos that I have tested positive for Covid-19 after recently undergoing routine work safety testing in city hall," he said in a tweet.
According to Gatchalian, he is experiencing mild symptoms of the disease, but he will continue his responsibilities while under the city's isolation units.
"Rest assured the services of city hall will continue without any hitches," he said.
In the meantime, Gatchalian said that Vice-Mayor Natividad Borja and the management team of the city hall "will also be in full force physically running the affairs of the city."
Gatchalian joins the list of local chief executives in the National Capital Region who contracted COVID-19.
On Sunday, Pasay Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano and Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco said in separate announcements that they are also positive for the disease.
