Pasay Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano has tested positive for COVID-19, according to her chief of staff, the second time the city executive contracted the disease.
Peter Eric Pardo told reporters on Sunday that Rubiano started feeling unwell Saturday with a sore throat. She then took an RT-PCR test, which yielded a positive COVID-19 result.
The local chief executive is "symptomatic," said the chief of staff, and is now under facility isolation.
According to Pardo, Rubiano will still continue with her responsibilities as mayor and will be holding all meetings virtually until she recovers.
This is the second time that the Pasay mayor contracted the disease after she first got infected with it in February 2021.
Pasay has 67 new COVID-19 infections on January 2, raising active cases to 214.
Overall, the city has 22,292 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Rubiano is one of the two Metro Manila mayors who disclosed they contracted COVID-19, as Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco also unveiled to the public on Sunday that he is sick with it as well.
