Following the magnitude 6 earthquake that hit two provinces in the Davao region on Wednesday evening, the United States expressed preparedness to assist the earthquake victims in New Bataan, Davao de Oro.
During his meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the Malacañang Palace, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III expressed his sympathy to the Philippines and the people affected by the quake.
He said that the US gov't is ready to help in any way they can to provide humanitarian assistance where and when possible.
The senior official stated that he was relieved knowing that only minor damages has been reported despite the strong earthquake.
Meanwhile, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) spokesperson Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV reported that some experienced minor injuries from the magnitude 6 earthquake.
He added that the affected OCD regional offices and local disaster risk reduction management offices are now doing their job to assess, coordinate, and monitor further developments.
Also included in the report is the stability of water, power supply, and communication lines in quake-hit areas.
