The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday, Nov. 16, fined P5,000 to the two drivers involved in tagging Senator Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla’s alleged use of the EDSA carousel lane for violating the busway regulation.
According to MMDA, the drivers of the vehicles with plate number ‘8’ admitted that Revilla was not onboard the cars when traffic enforcers apprehended them, nor was the senator the vehicle’s owner.
The apprehending officers, however, claimed not personally seeing Revilla inside the vehicle but relied on the driver who dropped the senator’s name.
“The agency considers this a welcome development in light of the incident as the agency conducts a probe and determines the lapses in the procedures in the implementation of the EDSA Bus Lane regulation,” MMDA chief Romando Artes said.
Despite issuing traffic violation tickets and imposing a fine, Artes said it was up to Revilla if necessary charges would be filed against the drivers.
