Senator Raffy Tulfo on Tuesday proposed to amend the Anti-Hazing law to hold fraternities, sororities, and organizations more accountable following the brutal killing of Adamson student John Matthew Sisilig.

During the hearing of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on Salilig's death, Tulfo said he wants to impose charges against those who will be involved in the hazing incidents including fraternity chapter officials, school officials, and owners of establishments where the fraternity initiations take place.

He pointed out that hazing would not happen without the "go signal" or permission of the said individuals.

"From now on, gagawa po tayo ng batas na ang lahat ng may-ari ng venue at nag-facilitate doon sa initiation ay mananagot at kakasuhan ng reclusion perpetua kapag may nangyaring hazing. No ifs and buts," Tulfo said.

The Senator said whether or not the officials are not present in the incident, charges should still be filed.

"So, therefore, kailangan kapag may nangyaring hazing, lahat ng opisyales automatic kasuhan ng reclusion perpetua. As simple as that. Medyo brutal nga po, pero this might serve as a deterrent para matigil na nga po ang tinatawag na hazing," he said.

Tulfo stressed that there is a need to "provide more teeth" to the Republic Act No. 11053 or Anti-Azing law.

"It is hard to make these people liable because these types of organizations are shrouded in secrecy and a bond that dictates outright blind obedience to the seniors and masters," he said.
