Tropical Depression "Kristine" entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to PAGASA.

As of 5 a.m., typhoon "Kristine" is currently located 1,050 km east of Southeastern Luzon, moving west-southwestward at 30 km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and gustiness up to 70 km/h.

The weather bureau said that the cyclone is expected to intensify into a tropical storm in the next 12 hours and could reach typhoon strength by Thursday, October 24, before making landfall in the northeastern part of Cagayan on Friday, October 25.

Tropical Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised in the following areas:

  • Catanduanes
  • Northeastern portion of Northern Samar (Laoang, Palapag, Mapanas, Gamay, Catubig, Lapinig)
  • Northeastern portion of Eastern Samar (Jipapad, Arteche, San Policarpo, Oras)

Areas at risk for strong winds and gusts

Meanwhile, southern Palawan, Bohol, and parts of Mindanao will experience strong to gale-force winds. These conditions will persist tomorrow, affecting Palawan, Romblon, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao. By Wednesday, October 23, MIMAROPA, Visayas, and Mindanao will likely experience similar gusty conditions.

Hazardous sea conditions

Moderate to rough seas are expected in various coastal areas. Mariners, particularly those operating small seacrafts, are advised not to venture out due to waves reaching up to 4.0 meters. Precautionary measures are recommended for those navigating in affected regions.

Forecast track and intensification

Kristine is expected to track westward until tomorrow before shifting west-northwestward.

The cyclone is likely to intensify due to favorable environmental conditions, potentially reaching typhoon status before landfall.

Mariners and coastal residents are urged to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins for potential changes in Kristine’s path and intensity.
