The Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) will not be joining the three-day tigil pasada, its National President Mody Floranda said on Monday, July 17.
The transport strike, organized by transport group Manibela, will be held starting from July 24 until July 26 nationwide.
"Wala pa tayong gano'n. Bagama't nirerespeto natin ang posisyon ng iba't ibang grupo at federation dahil 'yung mga isyu naman ay legit, at isyu naman ng transporation iyan, pare-pareho ng panawagan," the PISTON National President told reporters when asked if they will be joining the strike.
He added that they acknowledged that the tigil pasada will result to greater good for transporation operators and drivers.
But Floranda said that he wrote an letter of appeal to President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos in regards to PISTON's strong opposition against the Omnibus Franchising Guidelines (OFG) and Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Modernization Program.
"Umaasa po kami na ang pusisyon at mga kahingian ay maging bahagi at tuwirang maikokonsidera ng pamahalaan sa kasalukuyang ginaganap na review ng OFG at PUVMP na inyong iniutos noong Marso 2023 at sa darating sa SONA," the letter reads.
Earlier on Monday, PISTON conducted a State Of the Transport Adress (SOTA) protest along Mendiola in Manila, calling for the discontiuation of the PUV modernization program.
