Effective June 15, the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) will be implementing increased toll rates following the approval of the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB).
Motorists can expect additional charges for various vehicle classes.
Class 1 vehicles, including regular cars and SUVs, will have to pay an extra P7. For Class 2 vehicles, such as buses and small trucks, an additional P17 will be imposed.
Meanwhile, Class 3 vehicles, which include large trucks, will be subjected to an additional fee of P19.
For those traveling within the closed system, a rate of 36 centavos per kilometer will be charged.
The open system spans from Navotas, Valenzuela, and Caloocan cities to Marilao in Bulacan.
On the other hand, the closed system covers the stretch between Bocaue, Bulacan, and Sta. Ines, Mabalacat City, Pampanga, including Subic-Tipo.
NLEX clarified that motorists traveling end-to-end between Metro Manila and Mabalacat City will face higher toll rates.
Specifically, Class 1 vehicles will be charged an additional P33, while Class 2 vehicles will have to pay an extra P81. For Class 3 vehicles, an additional P98 will be imposed.
The company emphasized that these new rates are part of the authorized periodic adjustments that were due in 2012, 2014, 2018, and 2020.
According to NLEX, the TRB granted permission to collect the fourth and final tranche of the 2012 and 2014 periodic adjustments for this year.
"The new rates, which underwent thorough regulatory reviews and approvals, were part of the authorized NLEX periodic adjustments due in 2012, 2014, 2018, and 2020," NLEX said in a statement.
Moreover, only half of the 2018 and 2020 increases will be implemented to mitigate their impact on expressway users and address the existing inflationary situation.
"TRB allowed NLEX to collect this year the fourth and last tranche of the 2012 and 2014 periodic adjustments and only half of the 2018 and 2020 increases to help “curb the existing inflationary situation and cushion their impact on the users of the expressway," it added.
NLEX also assured that public utility jeepneys enrolled in the NLEX Pass-ada and Tsuper Card discount and rebate programs will continue to enjoy the previous toll rates.
