Former Negros Oriental Gov. Henry Pryde Teves will allow authorities to access his bank transactions.
Teves declared on Tuesday, March 28, that he will waive his rights under Republic Act 1405, also called the Bank Secrecy Act, which prohibits the disclosure or inquiry of deposits in any banking institution.
"Para naman makita, ma-clear up kung sino yung mga tao na ka-transaction ko, kausap ko, ano ang kakayahan ko bilang tao, what are my major possessions, what are my cash balances," Teves said during DZRH's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas.
"Lahat naman iyan ay importanteng makita kung involved ka sa isang ganitong masamang operation o hindi," he added.
Teves said that he will also allow authorities to access his e-mails and phone logs.
"I never delete any of my conversations. I never delete para ako rin, alam ko kung nasaan ako, kung sino ang kausap ko sa mga araw na iyan. Hindi ko dini-delete iyan," Teves stressed.
Teves made the declaration after police seized firearms and ammunition buried at the compound of a sugar mill owned by the former governor in Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.
The former governor said that he already reached out to Justice Sec. Jesus Crispin Remulla, and wants to conduct his own investigation regarding the firearms and ammunition discovered in the compound.
"If that property belongs to the corporation, which I am president, I should also be able to know bakit anong nangyari diyan," Teves stressed.
"While it is a 52-hectare property, the 10-hectares is the gated compound, there is a 42-hectare property na raw land," he explained.
The raid of the compound happened amidst suspicions that Teves and his older brother, Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves, planned the murder of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo last March at his residence in the town of Pamplona.
The brothers denied their alleged involvement in the attack that led to the death of Degamo and eight others.
The younger Teves lost the governorship of Negros Oriental after the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) nullified his victory in the 2022 elections, and proclaimed Degamo as the winner in the gubernatorial polls.
The decision stemmed from petition of Degamo to nullify the certificate of candidacy of another gubernatorial candidate Ruel Degamo, also known as Grego Gaudia.
COMELEC ruled in favor of the petition and added the votes garnered by Gaudia to Degamo.
The ruling of the poll body pushed the votes of Degamo from 281,773 to 331,726, surpassing the 301,319 votes received by the younger Teves in the 2022 polls.
