The East Timor government has rejected the special political asylum requested by Suspended Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo 'Arnie' Teves, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has announced.

"Today, the Ministry of Interior of Timor-Leste confirmed that Representative Teves' application for political asylum has been denied," DFA said in a statement issued on Tuesday evening.

It said that the East Timor government ordered the suspended Negros Congressman to leave their country in five days.

"During this time, he also has the option to file an appeal regarding the decision," the foreign affairs added.

On Monday afternoon, the Department of Justice (DOJ) released the letter of Secretary Jesus Crispin 'Boying' Remulla who informed DFA Enrique Manalo that Teves Jr. is presently in Dili, the capital City of Timor-Este, "where he applied for a protection visa with the intent of asylum.".

Remulla told Manalo that the DOJ has taken actions to prescribe Teves as a terrorist before the Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC).

Special political asylum status is granted to individuals who ask permission to stay in another nation until they can safely return to their own country.

Teves is being tagged as the main mastermind in the brutal assassination of Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo last March 4.
