Production company TAPE Incorporated on Thursday issued a statement following the departure of the three main hosts — Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey De Leon — of the longest-running noontime show "Eat Bulaga!"
Their statement was aired during the Thursday's episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda." The statement was signed by TAPE owner Romeo Jalosjos and Chief Finance Officer Bullet Jalosjos.
"TAPE, INC. is saddened by the turn of events yesterday, May 31, but we respect the decision of the hosts to leave Eat Bulaga and GMA 7 Network, which has been their home for 28 years," the statement read.
"It is unfortunate, but life must go on. As with life, we have to accept changes, but we have a duty to every Filipino," the statement added.
TAPE said that they are grateful to all those who were involved and for making sure that the noontime show is number one. However, it added that the success of th show is not dependent on the three main hosts.
“The success of Eat Bulaga is not dependent only on three (3) people but on the collaborative efforts of its talents, crew, and loyal viewers,”it said.
TAPE also reassured viewers of new personalities and exciting segments for the show.
"Eat Bulaga" has been a staple of Philippine television since its airing in 1979, capturing the hearts of millions with over 13,000 episodes — marking its title as the longest-running variety show in the country.
Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, collectively known as TVJ, have been synonymous with the show, and their absence will undoubtedly be deeply felt by both the audience and their co-hosts.
Aside from the trio, other prominent hosts of the show like Maine Mendoza, Paolo Ballesteros, Jose Manalo, Ryzza Mae Dizon, Wally Bayola, Ryan Agoncillo, and Allan K have also stepped down from the show as of May 31, 2023.
