A state of calamity has been declared in the city of Tagum in Davao del Norte following a dengue fever outbreak.

In a statement on Monday, the Tagum City Health Office (TCHO), citing its City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit, said that 1,054 dengue cases were recorded from January to November 2023.

Most of the infected patients were aged below five years old. Nine people have died due to the infection.

According to the health office, most of the cases were from the barangays: Visayan Village at 206, Apokon at 162, and Mankilam at 140.

It urged citizens to destroy mosquito breeding places, to apply mosquito repellent, and to wear long-sleeved clothing.
