Pope Francis has named Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle as special envoy for the biggest gathering of Asian bishops in Thailand in October.
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) made the announcement in a statement on Saturday, citing a Vatican bulletin.
The Asian Bishop's meeting will begin on October 12 at the Baan Phu Waan Pastoral Center of the Archdiocese of Bangkok in Thailand.
Tagle, according to the CBCP, will preside over the closing Mass of the 50th general conference of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conference (FABC) at the Assumption Cathedral on October 30.
This year’s conference theme is “FABC 50: Journeying together as peoples of Asia …and they went a different way.” (Mt 2:12).
Tagle headed the FABC's Office of Theological Concerns for several years while he was still archbishop of Manila before he was appointed to the Vatican dicastery.
