Three suspects involved in the ambush attempt on Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal 'Bombit' Alonto-Adiong, Jr. last month were nabbed by the authorities in Bukidnon on Friday morning.
An initial report from the Police Regional Office 10 said the three suspects, identified as Palawan Salem Macalbo, 34 years old; Nagac Dimatangkil Baratomo, 38; and Amirodin Dimantingkal Mandoc, 29, were arrested in Sitio Panamsamon, Ninoy Aquino, Kalilangan, Bukidnon in connection with a warrant issued against them for frustrated murder and illegal possession of firearms.
The police said Macalbo was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant for a murder case in 2019 while Baratomo and Mandoc were arrested for violation of the firearms law.
“The arrested persons were included as alleged suspects of the recent ambuscade conducted against Governor Adiong of Lanao Del Sur,” the report stated.
Authorities recovered several firearms from the suspects such as a Colt M16 rifle, a grenade, a Colt M16 magazine loaded with eight pieces of ammunition, and a rifle grenade
They are now under the custody of Kalilangan Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.
Earlier, the Police Regional Office - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region reported that another suspect in the slay attempt, identified only as “Otin,” was killed during pursuit operations conducted from February 17 to 19.
On February 17, unidentified gunmen fired on Alonto-Adiong Jr.'s convoy in Maguing, Lanao del Sur.
The Lanao del Sur governor was wounded and rushed to a provincial hospital, while his three security personnel and driver were killed.
