Department of Transportation (DOTr) Sec. Arthur Tugalde shares on DZRH Commuter Corner on September 10 the relaunch of the Service Contracting Program.

Service Contracting is a contract between the operator and the owners of the bus, jeepney, and UV express -that the wage is computed by the kilometer run with or without passengers of those with fixed routes as long as you run in the designated time frame. This is also said to aim for discipline and orderliness in the streets.

The Service Contracting Program was first implemented under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act starting last year until June 2021.

The relaunch of the SCP is an extension under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA) after positive effects were recognized on the first implementation.

The said extended program will get a P3 Billion budget and will run until December 2021 or until the funds allotted are exhausted.

This extension aims to help operators over the decreased income caused by health measures enforced in public transportation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The extension of the SCP in addition to medical frontliners, qualified APORs (authorized persons outside of their residence) and worker essential services can also enjoy free rides.
