The Siargao Airport will reopen for commercial flights on Tuesday, December 28 after it was among the establishments on the island that was heavily devastated by Typhoon Odette.
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade made the announcement in his report to President Rodrigo Duterte during the weekly Talk to the People.
According to Tugade, 15 airports in the Visayas and Mindanao sustained minor damage including Busuanga, Puerto Princesa, Bicol, Caticlan, Kalibo, Roxas, Bohol-Panglao, Tacloban, Ormoc, Laguindingan, Cotabato, Davao, General Santos, Butuan, and Iloilo.
Meanwhile, eight airports including San Vicente, Dumaguete, Camiguin, Siquijor, Antique, Maasin, Surigao, and Mactan-Cebu, sustained major damages but were already fully operational.
Data showed that around PHP 13,500,000 funds will be needed in order to repair the entirety of Siargao Airport that was destroyed by the typhoon.
Aside from that, Tugade also listed estimated funds for the repair of the following airports:
- Surigao Airport - P10,500,000
- Maasin Airport - P3,750,000
- Mactan Cebu Airport - P2,000,000
