Senatorial aspirant Luis "Manong Chavit" Singson met with Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos on Thursday at City Hall to present his initiatives and advocacies for the city and the nation.
The meeting was also attended by barangay captains of Mandaluyong, where Singson, number 58 on the Senate ballot, shared his economic visions and legislative priorities.
During their discussion, Mayor Abalos praised Singson for his efforts in promoting economic reforms, particularly his authorship of Republic Act 7171, which imposed excise taxes on Virginia tobacco to support farmers in tobacco-producing provinces.
"Idolo ko si Manong Chavit. Sa ngalan ng ekonomiya. About the RA 7171," said Abalos.
"My grandfather was from San Vicente, Ilocos Sur, and there was no life there before. Until the Congressman Manong Chavit passed the bill," Mayor Abalos gave a glowing endorsement to Singson during the meeting.
Singson highlighted several of his advocacies, including integrating financing for electric vehicles through his VBank initiative to assist local government units in transitioning to eco-friendly public utility vehicles.
He also unveiled his "Chavit500" program, a universal basic income initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to low-income families and individuals without permanent jobs.
Additionally, Singson emphasized the importance of cutting bureaucratic red tape to attract more investors and expedite assistance to those in need.
"Ito lahat ay gagawin ko dahil kapag sinabi ko, gagawin ko. Ganyan ako, may Isang Salita," Singson stated.
