Senator Risa Hontiveros announced on Monday, July 28, her decision to join the new minority bloc ahead of the opening of the 20th Congress, abandoning her initial plan to establish an independent bloc.
“Yung plan A ko na independent bloc, hindi na nga mabubuo,” Hontiveros said during the press briefing on Monday
Hontiveros' initial plan to build or join an independent bloc was motivated by her belief that the minority would comprise a different set of senators.
“Nung akala ko ibang bloke ng mga senador ang magiging minority, hindi ako sasama sa kanila,” she said.
However, upon learning that there would be another group organizing in the chamber, she accepted the invitation,
“Pero ngayong may iba pang bloke ang magbubuo ng minority at ibang senador ang magiging minority leader, ako’y naging bukas sa kanilang pag iimbita at nagdesisyon akong sumama sa minority,” she expressed as she formally announced her decision to join the minority.
The senator also expressed her firm commitment on social media, declaring that she is content with her choice to join the bloc.
“Ako po ay magiging bahagi ng Minority. Panatag ang loob ko, mapayapa ako na dito sa pagsapi ko sa Minority, magpapatuloy akong magtatrabaho at magpapatuloy akong maninindigan,” she stated
