Senate to remain independent — Escudero
by Alessandra C. Frianela16 July 2024

Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero, on Monday, stood firm that the Senate of the Philippines would continue to uphold its independence and would not be swayed by anyone from the Malacañang Palace.

During Escudero's visit in the 85th Anniversary of DZRH, he mentioned that it's unfair to accuse the Senate of being influenced by those in power.

Escudero cited former Senator Franklin Drilon as an example. During Drilon's tenure as Senate President, the Senate maintained its independence, despite his close relationship with former President Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III.

"Nakapasan yan sa balikat ng 24 na senador, na itayo ang bandera ng senado at panatilihing independent, malaya, at kailan man ay hindi magpapasupil ang senado," the Senate President said.

Escudero mentioned that the Senate will stand firm and retain its independence, but this responsibility will rely on the 24 senators.

"Basta ang tama ay tama, basta't mali ay mali sa punto de vista namin," he added.
