The Senate will implement a one-day lockdown to conduct cleaning and disinfection after several Senators have tested positive for COVID-19, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri announced on Friday, Aug. 19.
According to Zubiri, Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Imee Marcos, Cynthia Villar, Joel Villanueva, JV Ejercito, and Nancy Binay got infected after being exposed to their staff members and secretariat who were tested positive for the virus.
“I have instructed the Secretariat to conduct a thorough cleaning and disinfection of all Senate offices. For this reason, there will be a total lockdown of our Senate building, and all Senate employees shall work from home and need not report to the Senate on Monday (22 August 2022),” he wrote in a Facebook post.
The senate session will resume on Tuesday, Aug. 23, Zubiri said.
“Please stay safe and healthy everyone. Together we shall fight this Virus and continue to deliver government service as efficiently as possible,” he added.
Senator Binay confirmed earlier that she is currently at home under quarantine and strictly following recommended protocols after being tested positive for COVID-19.
Alongside, Senator Ejercito also disclosed in a Facebook post that he tested positive after taking the RT-PCR test yesterday but said he has no symptoms yet.
