Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan announced that all e-wallet operators have been directed to disconnect with online gambling platforms within the next 48 hours.
The order came after Senator Alan Peter Cayetano raised concerns during a Senate hearing about the withdrawal of e-wallet services from online gaming sites.
“May order nang tanggalin ang links, so hindi sumusunod sa inyo?” Cayetano asks
Tangonan confirmed that the BSP has instructed e-wallet operators to begin unlinking from the platforms immediately.
“We gave them 48 hours to take down the link.” the BSP answered.
The response sparked a heated exchange during the hearing, with Cayetano pressing the BSP to provide honest answers as.
“Be very clear here. Kasi hindi lokohan tong hearing na to.. Lokohan ba ‘to? Konting pagiging forthright naman,” he said.
