For over five decades, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization – Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH) has been a driving force in shaping inclusive and impactful learning systems across Southeast Asia.
This year, the organization marks its 55th anniversary, celebrating its significant contributions to education and innovation in the region.
A Legacy of Educational Innovation
SEAMEO INNOTECH has remained at the forefront of educational development, pioneering transformative programs, research, and training initiatives.
Among its key contributions are the alignment of the K-12 curriculum and the development of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) 2.0, both of which have enhanced access to quality education for diverse learners.
Under the leadership of Director Dr. Leonor Magtolis-Briones, the Center has further expanded its impact through initiatives such as the development of a competency framework for teachers, an international youth-led conference, a national conference series on artificial intelligence, and the establishment of an art gallery that integrates the humanities into education.
These programs have strengthened SEAMEO INNOTECH’s role as a catalyst for educational innovation, earning a 4.6 satisfaction rating in its annual client survey.
A Celebration of Partnerships and Progress
The anniversary celebration gathered esteemed dignitaries, educators, and partners to honor SEAMEO INNOTECH’s legacy and vision for the future. Dr. Gina Gonong, Undersecretary for Curriculum and Teaching at the Department of Education, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the organization’s pivotal role in shaping education.
“SEAMEO INNOTECH has trained over 181,000 educators in the last five years alone, equipping them with tools to thrive in an ever-changing world. This milestone reaffirms our commitment to building a brighter, inclusive, and innovative future for education,” she said.
Congressman Ron Salo echoed this sentiment, highlighting the institution’s enduring impact. “This institution’s impact extends beyond classrooms. It has empowered learners, strengthened communities, and inspired collaboration across nations. SEAMEO INNOTECH’s legacy is a testament to what is possible when we act collectively with bold vision,” he stated.
Dr. Briones expressed her gratitude to the organization’s partners and stakeholders, reaffirming SEAMEO INNOTECH’s commitment to human-centered solutions in education. “As we move forward with artificial intelligence and new advancements in education, we also champion the harmony of science, technology, and the humanities to promote innovative and inclusive learning,” she said.
Looking Ahead: AI and the Future of Education
As part of its commitment to innovation, SEAMEO INNOTECH is set to host an international conference on artificial intelligence this year. The event will bring together educators, experts, and policymakers to explore the integration of AI in education, ensuring that advancements remain inclusive and effective.
With 55 years of transformative work behind it, SEAMEO INNOTECH continues to inspire and empower educators and learners alike. Its dedication to fostering regional cooperation and innovation reaffirms its role as a leader in educational development in Southeast Asia and beyond.
