Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte made a grand entrance at the opening of the 19th Congress on Monday wearing a traditional Bagobo Tagabawa dress ahead of the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The Bagobo Tagabawa tribe of Davao is one of the largest groups of indigenous peoples in Southern Mindanao.
Her spokesman, Atty. Reynold Munsayac previously said that Duterte will be borrowing the traditional Bagobo Tagabawa dress from Deputy Mayor of the Tagabawa tribe of Davao City Bae Sheirelle Anino due to time constraints.
The entire ensemble of the traditional dress takes over a month to make. The tribe’s traditional clothing is known for being colorful.
