The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) has approved the increase of ₱40 in the daily minimum wage of private sector workers in the National Capital Region (NCR), the Department of Labor of Employment (DOLE) said on Thursday.
In a statement, DOLE said the RTWPB issued Wage Order No. NCR-24 which granted the minimum wage hike on June 26, affirmed it on June 27, and authorized its publication on June 30.
“The wage order is to take effect after 15 days from its publication and on 16 July 2023,” the labor department said.
The approved ₱40 pushes the daily minimum wage of non-agriculture sector workers in NCR from the current ₱570 to ₱610.
For the agriculture sector, service and retail establishments, it rose from ₱573 to ₱533.
According to DOLE, the wage order is expected to directly benefit 1.1 million Filipino workers earning minimum wage in NCR and 1.5 million Filipino workers earning a full-time wage, and workers not earning above the minimum wage.
The last time RTWPB issued a wage hike order for NCR workers and private establishments was on May 13, 2022, and it took effect on June 4, 2022.
Earlier, several labor groups called for an increase in the daily minimum wage in the region amidst the skyrocketing increase in the prices of basic goods and commodities in the country.
