The passing of Albay 1st District Rep. Edcel C. Lagman would leave a great void, not just in Congress but in the field of Philippine public service, House Speaker Martin Romualdez said.
On Thursday evening, January 30, the late Lagman’s daughter, Tabaco City Mayor Krisel Lagman, announced the news of his passing. According to the latter, the Congressman died on Thursday afternoon due to cardiac arrest.
The House Speaker remembered the late politician on the same evening, highlighting his efforts for the causes he believed in. According to Romualdez, the latter was more than a colleague. He was also a “passionate and fearless legislator” whose presence in Congress commanded respect.
“Cong. Edcel was known for his sharp intellect, unwavering principles, and deep commitment to the causes he believed in. Whether one agreed with him or not, no one could deny his dedication to his work and his tireless advocacy for human rights, good governance and social justice,” Romualdez said in a statement. “His voice—always firm, always eloquent—pushed important debates forward and challenged us all to think more critically and act more decisively.”
Romualdez extended his deepest condolence to the late politician’s family, friends, and colleagues in the Liberal Party. Lagman’s absence would leave a great void within the country’s public service, Romualdez highlighted.
“His absence leaves a great void, not just in Congress but in Philippine public service. On behalf of the House of Representatives,” he said.
“I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues in the Liberal Party. May they find comfort in knowing that Cong. Edcel’s legacy of service and integrity will endure,” he continued.
