Albay 1st District Representative and Liberal Party president Edcel Lagman passed away on Thursday afternoon, according to his daughter. He was 82 years old.

In a statement, Tabaco City Mayor Krisel Lagman announced the death of her father, who succumbed to cardiac arrest.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father," she said.

"He came into this world on May 1, 1942, and left it for a better place on January 30, 2025, at exactly 5:01 in the afternoon due to cardiac arrest."

The mayor also highlighted how her father lived his life with "integrity, compassion, and fearlessness," and how, until the end, he "fought with the dogged determination, tenacity, and unshakable hopefulness that defined all that he stood for."

His family vowed to honor his legacy.

"He will live on in our hearts, and we will continue to honor his memory by living our lives in a way that would make him proud," they added.

The seasoned legislator was instrumental in the enactment of significant laws, such as the abolition of the death penalty, the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law, and the Centenarian Act.

Lagman was also celebrated as the foremost proponent of the Reproductive Health Act and a principal author of the legislation aimed at preventing child marriage.
