The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) announced on Saturday that the scheduled hearing of former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez on October 22 will no longer push through after he "requested a postponement."
According to the ICI advisory, Romualdez asked to defer the hearing as he is set "to undergo a medical procedure."
"The Commission will issue an advisory once a date for the next hearing has been determined," the statement read.
Romualdez, previously appeared before the ICI on October 14, where he submitted a 100-page affidavit in connection with the commission’s ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
During his earlier appearance, Romualdez expressed his willingness to cooperate with the independent body's inquiry and said he was ready to return if invited again.
The ICI, based in Taguig City, is conducting a series of hearings to investigate alleged anomalies in infrastructure projects, particularly into the flood control projects across the country.
No new date has yet been set for Romualdez’s rescheduled appearance.
During the investigation on alleged irregularities in flood control programs, contractor couple, Curlee and Sarah Discaya, claimed that several lawmakers including Romualdez, had received commissions or kickbacks from infrastructure projects awarded to their construction companies. However, he earlier has denied allegations.
