Makati City on Saturday evening turned pink as presidential candidate Leni Robredo and her running-mate, Senator Francis Pangilinan, ended their 90-day campaign run along Ayala Avenue.
The tandem's miting de avance saw the attendance of their Senate slate, including Teddy Baguilat, Risa Hontiveros, Sonny Matula, Chel Diokno, Alex Lacson, Antonio Trillanes, and Dick Gordon.
The event was star-studded, with surprise appearances from Anne Curtis-Smith and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
Celebrities including Vice Ganda, Sharon Cuneta, Angel Locsin, Iza Calzado, Bianca Gonzales, and more were also present to entertain the crowd.
According to organizers, a massive 780,000 individuals flooded Ayala Avenue to express support to Robredo and her team.
Pangilinan, in his speech, said that he believes only Robredo has proven that she is the worthy president of the Philippines.
"Dahil dito sinakripisyo ko ang kagustuhan kong sarili upang unahin ang interes ng ating minamahal na republika," he said.
(Because of this I sacrified my personal desires to prioritize the interest of the republic.)
"Hindi man natin plinano na mag-vice president, naniniwala ako na may plano ang Diyos."
(I may not have planned to become the vice president, but I believe God has a plan.)
Robredo, who was introduced by her three daughters on stage, recalled her time as vice president and thanked all of her supporters.
"Maraming, maraming salamat sa inyong lahat dahil sinabayan ninyo akong ipaglaban ang ating bansa," she said.
(Thank you very much to everyone because you joined me in fighting for the country.)
According to Robredo, while she cannot promise to make everyone's problems disappear in an instant, she vowed to ensure that the government will be there during difficult times.
"Hindi ko ipapangako na makakamtan natin agad ang lahat ng ito, o na mawwawala ang lahat ng problema natin sa isang iglap lamang," she said.
(I cannot promise to achieve all of this, or all of our problems would quickly disappear.)
"Pero ang panata ko, sa landas para maabot ang ang solusyon, palalayain kayo ng gogbyerno mula sa mga dumadagan sa inyo, tatabihan kayo sa piangdaraanan ninyo."
(But I promise you, in the road to resolving our problems, the government will free you from burdens weighing on you, and they will be beside you in whatever you’re facing.)
The vice president then urged her supporters to be vigilant in the upcoming polls.
"Mapagmatyag dapat. Irekord at ireport ang anumang pangyayaring hindi pangkaraniwan na masasaksihan ninyo," she said. "Wag matakot dhil napakarami natin."
(Be vigilant. Record and report whatever incident that you witness that may not be common. Do not be afraid because we are many.)
