Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday said she will leave the decision to their supporters on who they want to choose as the 12th senator following the removal of Senate Majority Leader Miguel Zubiri from their senatorial slate for openly endorsing her rival, former senator Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.
In an ambush interview with reporters in Catanauan, Quezon, Robredo said there were several suggestions on who should replace Zubiri on their senate ticket, however, due to time constraints, she will leave it to the supporters to choose.
"Iyong kahapon ang update sa akin, parang ang desisyon, hindi na lalagyan ng kapalit. We’ll let the voters decide kung sino iyong idagdag nilang kapalit kasi marami yata iyong nakapila na pagpipilian," she told reporters.
[Yesterday, I was updated that the decision is not to replace him. We'll let the voters decide who they want to replace him with since there are lots of names to choose from.]
"Talagang wala nang oras. Ako basta sa akin, ang pakiusap ko sa kanila, kayo na ang mag-desisyon. Basta ako, all my waking hours, nasa kampanya na ako," she added.
[We really don't have much time. For me, I just ask them to decide. In my all walking hours, I am campaigning.]
On Wednesday, Robredo's spokesman Atty. Barry Gutierrez announced that Zubiri is no longer part of the opposition senatorial slate as the latter's open endorsement of Marcos was “in contravention of the agreement with all guest candidates” of not backing a presidential bet.
“With 12 days remaining before elections, we are moving forward with our 11-candidate Senate slate,” Gutierrez noted.
Earlier, the tandem of Sen. Ping Lacson and Senate President Tito Sotto III also removed Zubiri from their slate after his endorsement of Marcos Jr.
