In a historic move, Vice President Leni Robredo's presidential bid has been officially endorsed by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and its political party, the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) on Saturday morning, April 23 — her birthday.
The officials of the MILF and UBJP including Bangsamoro Interim Chief Minister Murad Ebrahim made the formal endorsement during a press conference inside Camp Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat.
The announcement came over a month since Robredo visited the Bangsamoro Government Center in Cotabato City.
This is the first time the MILF is endorsing a presidential candidate for the elections.
"When we needed allies in Congress, and as Vice President of the Philippines, Leni Robredo was there for us. She was there for Marawi. She makes time for the Bangsamoro," Murad said.
Robredo personally graced the event and conveyed her gratitude to the UBJP for their support and vowed to pass more measures to help the Bangsamoro people.
