The camp of presidential bet Vice President Leni Robredo has not raised any objection to the inclusion of all certificates of canvass (COC) in the recently concluded May 9 elections.
In a manifestation on Tuesday, Robredo's counsel Romulo Macalintal echoed the previous pronouncements made by the Vice President that the majority vote should be respected.
Earlier, the chambers of Congress — Senate and House of Representatives — convened as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) in order to start the canvassing of votes for the presidential and vice-presidential elections.
"[We] interpose no objection to the inclusion [o]f all the certificates of canvass for president from the various provincial and city boards of canvassers found by this honorable board to be authentic and duly-executed,” Macalintal said.
The lawyer also added that Robredo's camp also waived their appearance before the joint canvassing committee to expedite the canvassing proceedings.
"Sa ngalan ng Pilipinas na alam kong mahal na mahal ninyo, kailangan nating pakinggan ang tinig na ito dahil sa huli, iisa lang naman ang bayang pinagsasaluhan natn," he added.
Marcos Jr.’s lawyer Vic Rodriguez, who was also present, shared an appreciation for Macalintal’s manifestation and Robredo’s move, calling it “patriotic.”
"We join in the manifestation of my distinguished colleague and one of the election law practitioners, Atty Romulo “Romymac” Macalintal. Likewise, we would like to recognize and thank the patriotism exhibited by Vice President Leni Robredo for expressly recognizing the integrity and the result of the recently-concluded general elections," Rodriguez stated.
Meanwhile, the vice-presidential race was topped by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte with 31,561,948 votes, followed by Senator Francis Pangilinan with 9,232,883 votes.
