The Congress on Tuesday convened as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) in order to start the canvassing of votes for the presidential and vice-presidential elections.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco led the opening of the joint session.
The Senate contingent is composed of Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri; Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto; Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon; Senator Nancy Binay; Senator Imee Marcos; Senator Grace Poe; and Senator Pia Cayetano.
Meanwhile, the House contingent is composed of Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, Cavite Rep. Crispin Remulla, Cavite Rep. Abraham Tolentino; Pampanga Rep. Juan Bondoc; Negros Occ. Rep. Juliet Ferrer; Ilocos Sur Rep. Kristine Singson-Meehan; and AAMBIS-OWA Party-list Rep. Sharon Garin.
The rules for the canvassing of votes for presidential and vice-presidential polls were also adopted.
Zubiri earlier said Congress is eyeing to proclaim the new president and vice president by Wednesday, May 25.
According to Zubiri, presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and leading vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio have been advised to make themselves available on the said day.
Meanwhile, the vice-presidential race was topped by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte with 31,561,948 votes, followed by Senator Francis Pangilinan with 9,232,883 votes.
