Ginebra guard RJ Abarrientos took to social media to reveal the death threats he received after his team’s 108-104 loss to Meralco in Game 2 of the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals.
In a series of Instagram stories on Friday, Abbarientos shared the death threats he received, explaining that he wanted to post the images to raise awareness.
He also encouraged the public to report the dummy accounts that sent him the death threats.
"Grabe talaga mga tao sa social media. Talo lang sa pusta, biglang death threats gamit dummy accounts, pati pamilya dinadamay pa. Paki-report! Nakakaalarma na yung ganitong ugali," said Abbarientos.
"Naglalaro kami ng maayos, at trabaho namin 'to, parte ng basketball ang matalo. Sa mga kapwa ko players, di dapat tinotolerate yung ganito," he added.
A dummy account was found posting threats to shoot down Abarrientos and his partner.
Abarrientos tallied 12 points on 5-of-15 shooting, along with one rebound, three assists, and two steals.
Despite his effort, he missed a critical four-point shot late in the game that could have tied the score and sent the match to overtime.
The series decider between the Bolts and Gin Kings is set for Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
