The reproduction number in the National Capital Region (NCR) continues to increase in recent days, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
In an advisory, the reproduction number increased to 1.25 on May 23 from 1.05 on May 13 to May 19.
Though there is a slight increase in COVID-19 cases the DOH said that the transmission remains low.
According to Dr. John Wong, a member of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) technical working group for data analytics, experts are seeing early signs of a surge of COVID-19 but said the early signal is not sustained however there is a need to prepare for the said incoming surge.
In the confirmation of the DOH, there is an increase in the seven-day average cases in Central Luzon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and BARMM.
However, the Philippines remains at minimal to low-risk case classification but there is a seen increase in new COVID-19 cases, and our one-week growth rate or OWGR is positive.
