Despite mounting calls for resignation out of delicadeza, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin 'Boying' Remulla said stepping down from his current post "never" entered his mind because he has a "clear conscience."
This statement comes after his eldest son, Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III was arrested by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) during drug operations for possession of 937 grams of high-grade marijuana “kush” worth Php 1.31 million.
The younger Remulla has been charged with illegal possession and importation of narcotics under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
"It never entered my mind and it will not be because I have clear conscience," he said in an interview.
"This is probably the best example of the justice system working, ang anak mismo ng justice secretary ay nasadlak sa kaso. May mas mabigat pa ba dyan? (The son of a justice secretary himself is facing charges. Is there anything heavier than that?)" Remulla continued.
Earlier, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. said calls for Remulla's resignation has "no basis."
"I think the calls for him to resign have no basis. You call for somebody to resign if he's not doing his job or that they have misbehaved in that job,” Marcos said in an interview with reporters during the 8th Annual Balik Scientist Program Convention on Friday, Oct. 14.
Marcos said he thinks that Remulla was “very aware that he must allow the processes of the judiciary to work properly and that no one in the executive should interfere.”
In a statement earlier, Remulla claimed that he would “not intervene” or “influence” his son's predicament and that he “have not done” it in any way.
