The Department of Agriculture (DA) has declared the province of Quezon free from avian influenza or bird flu.
The declaration was stipulated under Memorandum Circular No. 09 Series of 2023, dated February 21, and signed by DA Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban.
According to the issuance, the laboratory results of the 1-kilometer and 7 kilometers surveillance zones surrounding the affected farms in Quezon were negative for influenza type A virus.
In July last year, a laboratory in Quezon tested positive for HPAI H5N1, or highly pathogenic avian influenza.
"Prior to the confirmation of the first case of HPAI H5N1 in Quezon, the province had been free from avian influenza in poultry through the joint efforts of LGU, DARFO, and BAI," it said.
The agriculture department first declared the Province of Rizal free from avian flu.
