The House Quad-Committee will invite Davao City Representative Paolo Duterte to attend the next hearing on drugs and extrajudicial killings.

In the Quad-Committee’s joint public hearing on Thursday, September 19, the House Committee on Public Accounts Chairman Joseph Stephen Paduano mentioned the letter from Rep. Paolo Duterte. The letter was addressed to the Committee, asking to allow for his appearance before the panel.

According to Paduano, the Davao City Rep. expressed his intent to raise questions to the resource persons on the Quad-Comm’s next hearing on drugs, POGOs, and extrajudicial killings.

As the Committee Chair, Surigao del Norte Rep. Ace Barbers granted Duterte’s request to appear before the panel in the next hearing.

“Well, the letter states that there are questions that the Hon. Paolo Duterte wishes to ask the resource persons. And may we just ask the Committee Secretary to please make sure that the invitation will be extended to the Hon. Paolo Duterte in the next Quad-Comm hearing with the topic on drugs and extrajudicial killings,” Barbers said.

The Davao City Rep. is the son of former President Rodrigo Duterte. At the time of the latter’s presidency, the war on drugs campaign led to a surge of extrajudicial killings in the nation.

In the previous hearing, the Quad-Committee extended an invitation to the former President to attend the probe. However, the Committee noted that they would respect whatever decision the former President makes on the invitation.
