The Quezon City local government unit will provide financial assistance to 8,000 persons with disabilities (PWDs) for its Persons with Disability Social Welfare Assistance Program this year.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte explained that the initiative was due to the lack of support PWDs have.
"Limitado ‘yung mga natatanggap na tulong ng mga PWD mula sa iba-ibang ahensya ng pamahalaan. Kaya binuo natin itong programang ito para kahit papaano ay makatulong sa gastusin ng kanilang pamilya lalo na ngayong tumataas ang presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin," she said.
The QC Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) confirmed that they initially enrolled 700 PWD beneficiaries in the program, which grants a quarterly subsidy of P1,500 to qualified indigent PWD QCitizens for one year.
The program covers 'indigent PWD QC residents not receiving any other financial aid from the national government thru GSIS, SSS, and 4Ps, among others and prioritizes the following:
- Bedridden
- PWDs with severe health conditions that seriously impair normal life
- Solo parent PWDs who struggle to provide for their children
- A solo parent living with a child with a disability
- Displaced PWD workers living alone
- PWDs living with senior citizen parents
Those who want to be a beneficiary of the program will have to submit documentary requirements to the PDAO district office in their area.
Additional requirements are the following:
- Updated medical certificate and photo of the bedridden PWD resident
- Certification from the previous company for a displaced PWD employee
- PWD QC ID of the child with disability and certification from the Social Services Development Department (SSDD) for indigent solo parents living with CWDs
- Senior Citizen QC IDs for PWDs who live with their senior citizen parents
The application will be followed by an initial interview and verification from PDAO.
"Cash aid will be distributed to the eligible beneficiary every quarter via direct payment or through electronic or digital means," the Quezon City government added.
They also distribute hearing aids, wheelchairs, canes, and other assistive devices to Persons with Disabilities.
