Two suspects were arrested for stealing Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) cable wires worth P117,000, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
In a report, Holy Spirit Police Station 14 caught the suspects in a follow-up operation conducted on Sunday, May 26.
“Based on the report, at around 4:45 PM on May 26, 2025, roving security guards of a Shakey’s Restaurant along Visayas Avenue, Brgy. Pasong Tamo, Quezon City, noticed an open manhole beside the establishment,” wrote in a statement.
“They immediately reported the incident to PLDT Bantay Kable operatives and later sought police assistance,” the QCPD added.
According to police reports, authorities discovered the suspects hiding inside the ‘manhole,’ along with several lengths of stolen cable wire.
Station Commander of Police Station 14 (PS14), Police Lieutenant Colonel Jose Luis Aguirre, identified the suspects as alias “Jerome,” 31, a resident of Barangay Bahay Toro, and “Crisjay,” 33, a resident of Barangay Pasong Tamo, both in Quezon City.
Authorities confiscated 11.9 meters of PLDT FSF underground copper cable wire worth ₱63,114, and another 7.6 meters of cable worth ₱53,937. Also recovered from the suspects were a 12-inch hacksaw and a metal chain.
QCPD said the suspects are now facing charges for violating Republic Act 10515 or the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013.
“We commend the swift action of Police Station 14 in apprehending the suspects and recovering the stolen cables. We will continue to strengthen our crime prevention efforts through relentless foot and mobile patrols to ensure the safety and security of our communities,” said QCPD under PCOL Randy Glenn Silvio.
