President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. rejected the calls for Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin ‘Boying’ Remulla to resign over the arrest of his eldest son, saying that it has “no basis."

"I think the calls for him to resign have no basis. You call for somebody to resign if he's not doing his job or that they have misbehaved in that job,” Marcos said in an interview with reporters during the 8th Annual Balik Scientist Program Convention on Friday, Oct. 14.

“He has done quite the contrary. He has taken the very proper position that he is recusing himself from any involvement in the case of his son,” he added.

Marcos said he thinks that Remulla was “very aware that he must allow the processes of the judiciary to work properly and that no one in the executive should interfere.”

On Oct. 11, Remulla’s eldest son Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III was arrested by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) during drug operations for possession of 937 grams of high-grade marijuana “kush” worth Php 1.31 million.

Following the incident, calls for the resignation of Remulla mounted on social media as many claimed that his duty as the justice chief could affect the process of a fair investigation.

In a statement earlier, Remulla claimed that he would “not intervene” or “influence” his son's predicament and that he “have not done” it in any way.

"I am both a father and the secretary of Justice, roles that I take very seriously. We all know about unconditional love, but at 38-years-old, he will have to face his predicament as a fully emancipated child. I have to abide by the oath of office I took when I assumed this position," he underscored.

Remulla noted that a person should face the consequence of their actions and so, he would let “justice take its own course.”
