President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the creation of an inter-agency task force in the preparation, organization, and hosting of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
In his signed Administrative Order No. 05, the formed task force has the primary duty of streamlining, integrating, harmonizing, and coordinating all government efforts in the preparation and participation of all delegates in the upcoming world cup.
It also mandates all government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to support the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas as the national sports association recognized by the FIBA as the body in charge of the promotion and development of basketball in the country.
The task force will be chaired by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairperson with representatives from the following agencies:
- Department of Foreign Affairs
- Department of Health
- Department of the Interior and Local Government
- Department of Public Works and Highways
- Department of Tourism
- Department of Transportation
- Bureau of Customs
- Bureau of Immigration
- Philippine National Police
- Metropolitan Manila Development Authority
"All heads of departments, bureaus, offices, agencies, or instrumentalities of the government, including government-owned or -controlled corporations, and state universities and colleges are hereby directed to extend full support and assistance, consistent with their respective mandates, to the PSC and SBP in the preparatory activities for the Philippines' hosting of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 including, among others, the procurement of the necessary materials and equipment, provision of support services, and acceptance of donations, in accordance with existing laws, rules, and regulations," it read.
The FIBA Basketball World Cup is a quadrennial men's basketball event organized by the FIBA, or Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the international regulatory organization for basketball recognized by the International Olympic Committee.
