Unscheduled power outages affected several parts of Luzon after it was placed under red alert on Monday, May 8 following problems at a power plant in Masinloc, Zambales, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) announced.
In an advisory, the NGCP said the red alert will last from 1 PM. to 4 PM while a yellow alert has also been issued from 6 PM to 8 PM.
“A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s regulating and contingency requirement.”
Based on NGCP’s official Twitter account, power interruptions were reported in a number of provinces, including Isabela, Quirino, and Ilocos Sur.
The advisory comes after a transmission line and 2 units of Masinloc Power Plant tripped off at past 1 PM today affecting the Luzon grid.
Following this advisory from the NGCP, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said it is implementing rotating power interruptions for up to two hours in some of its franchise areas.
