The Luzon power grid will again be placed under yellow alert on Wednesday, June 5, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
In its 8 am advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert will take effect from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Luzon Grid's available capacity is at 14,254 megawatts while the peak demand is 13,535 megawatts.
"2 plants have been on forced outage since 2023, 3 between January and March 2024, and 10 power plants between April and May 2024; while 5 are running on derated capacities, for a total of 1,765.6MW unavailable to the grid," said the NGCP.
The possible factors that contributed to the raising of the yellow alert are:
1. Duration of Masinloc 1 (from 344MW to 200MW), Masinloc 2 (from 344MW to 320MW), and Ilijan A from (600MW to 500MW)
2. Unavailability of Angat Main (200MW) due to low water elevation
3. Forced outage of the following plants: Pagbilao 2 (382MW) and San Lorenzo 50 (265MW)
Meanwhile, the Visayas and Mindanao grids are under normal conditions.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
