Pope Francis, 86, will be discharged from the Gemelli hospital on Saturday morning, Matteo Bruni, the director of the Holy See Press Office, announced in a statement on Friday.
He was cleared by doctors after being hospitalized due to respiratory infections.
"The medical team that is following His Holiness Pope Francis, after evaluating the outcome of tests carried out today and the favorable clinical recovery, has confirmed discharge," Bruni said.
The Press Office also released additional information about the Pope's previous visit to the hospital's pediatric cancer and infant neurosurgery wards. He thanked medical professionals and caregivers for their "self-sacrifice and spirit of service" during his visit.
The previous update also stated that, because he is set to return to the Vatican on Saturday morning, Pope Francis is likely to preside over the Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion Mass, which will be held in Saint Peter's Square on Sunday.
